About Us
Low Places is the name of our cattery, and also our ranch
nestled at the foot of fabled Clinch Mountain in Northeast
Tennessee. Our quiet, secluded valley is about 2 miles from
historic Rogersville. We go to sleep at night to the sound of cicadas and bullfrogs, yet we are just over an hour from Knoxville, and
a short drive from Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville, or Richmond.
Our large property enables us to have a large, outdoor enclosure
for our serval and his girls. We take Intimidator for walks out in the
pasture with our quarter horses, and he gets a big kick out of
sniffing noses with the cows through the fence!
Our kittens are raised in the house, underfoot, and are exposed to
a very rich environment. While we observe appropriate
precautions, our kittens are allowed to meet properly vaccinated
older cats, dogs and kids, once they have reached a stable health
stage. We feel that exposing our kittens to a broad environment,
physically and mentally, properly prepares them for the outside
world.
I discovered servals a few years ago, while still living in
California, and got on a waiting list as soon as I knew we were
moving to Tennessee, where servals are legal. Shortly after, I
discovered Savannah cats, and we decided to start breeding
these remarkable cats. We do not plan to make a profit, but we
have been using our proceeds to help with cat rescue.
The area where we live is a dumping ground for kittens, and we
have already rescued 5 in 3 years, neutering them and providing
a home. We were already home to 4 rescue kitties before we
moved, and hope to continue this tradition. We have donated
spays and neuters to our local vet clinic, and are helping with
some private, non-profit cat and dog foster homes. I have also
recently participated in transport for purebred rescues.
Talladega
One of our cats is quite remarkable. Talladega was scheduled to
be euthanized at the San Bernardino County Animal Shelter. He
called to me quite loudly, and reached through the bars for me.
He was quite insistent that he was the cat that needed to go home
with me that day. Talladega is the calmest cat I have every owned.
He will ride on a motorcycle, loves crowds, children and dogs. This
neutered, polydactyl pound kitty has appointed himself foster
daddy to every kitten that we ever brought home, and now to
the ones that are born here. He is a certified Therapy Pet with
the Delta Society, so he can share his special love with patients in
nursing homes and hospitals. Although he is never going to sire any
kittens for us, we still consider him the spiritual sire of all of
our cats.

Checkers and Burnout
Chrome and Checkers help construct the new cat enclosure.
Bristol came from a feral barn colony. He is absolutely in love with my quarter horse gelding,
Dan. He is very bonded with the horses, and hangs out with the other barn kitty, Tony.
Checkers and Burnout are the local variety of "Manx," who came to us at 4 weeks old. They had
some of the rectal problems very common with this mutation, and needed careful nursing until
they matured. Both are very loving and affectionate.
Chrome is the son of one of our orange barn kitties, and is actually a non-standard F4 Savannah,
with exotic "chrome" trim.
